It's so lovely to be able to talk to people who have read or would like to read my novels. The event generally starts with me talking about how I came to write my books. We then move onto reading an excerpt before I open the floor for a Q&A session.

I absolutely adored my visit to Lydd Library. Observing their regular book club meet but discussing my novel was very uplifting. Their helpful observations and the high ranking scores out of ten was very appreciated.
The nicest thing for all of us during the Q&A was for them to have their questions answered directly from the author and for me to be able to tell them how and why the book unfolded as it did.

To be able to engage with people who have specifically read my books is a pleasure. They all have so many different questions. What I enjoy is seeing how people have their favourite and least favourite characters! Unlike TV where we are visually shown how a character looks, our imagination provides so much more.

I often think we can generalise about the amount of time children like to spend on their devices, as if this somehow dulls their imagination and creative writing skills.
Yes, we need to monitor and set time limits on these things, just as we would about how much TV they watch. However, what I discovered to my delight was that far from 'numbing' them it enhanced their writing.
I gave them the title of my debut novel (The Gift of Time) - obviously it is an adult book so they hadn't read any of it - Just from the title they began their world building and let their imaginations run riot as they wrote the first couple of pages of a story.
Each one was totally different and amazing in its own right.
I remember in particular one child who declined any help from me and would not show me what they were working on. By the end of the session this child gently slid their work over to me to read. I felt incredibly honoured.
This is the power of words.
